Incandescent Light
Edison wanted to make incandescent light that could be in light bulbs to be long-lasting. An incandescent light is a filament connected on either end to tiny electrodes in a bulb made of glass. People had made incandescent light before , but it wasn't one that produced a lot of light or could last a long period of time. From previous experiments, Thomas knew that he would need a thin, spiral-shaped filament made of a material that would give light by getting hot, but that would not burn. He would then need to put the filament in a vacuum that would then be inside a glass tube. he would need to get the air out of the glass tube. Edison decided to work with metal platinum. After experimenting he saw that it didn't burn for more than a few minutes. In 1879, Thomas made a carbon filament put into a air-free oxygen bulb. Now, Incandescent light bulbs are now used almost everywhere from indoor houses, table lamps, car headlamps, to flashlights.
